Like designing a new home, your retirement plan should fit not only your needs but also your aspirations. We start with getting to know you a little bit better—your story, greatest accomplishments, and the values that led you to this point in your life.
Then, we talk about your future. What you want for your next season of life. What inspires you and what you want to build in your life and retirement. How often do you want to go on vacation? What role does giving back play in your life? What kind of legacy do you want to create? We’ll explore these questions and more in order to understand you and your goals holistically, not just the value of your accounts.
Of course, we will also review all of your financial statements, create a risk tolerance profile, and discuss your 401k’s, IRAs, social security, insurance, and other investments. We will put it all together for you into one snapshot so you have a clear picture of your financial situation and how it aligns with your retirement goals.

Before our next meeting, we’ll compile the information you provided us from which we can create a year-by-year projection of your retirement assets.
We’ll analyze your year-by-year plan throughout retirement, perform cash flow analysis, track the historic performance of your investments, analyze if your portfolio matches your risk tolerance, stress test your retirement plan for market volatility, evaluate your insurance policies, project your Required Minimum Distributions, analyze your tax strategy, outline a charitable giving plan, uncover hidden fees, consider IRA conversions, consider long-term care options, and plan the ideal time to buy or sell appreciated/depreciated assets.
That’s a lot. But it’s the essential starting point to give you the understanding of your present financial strength. However, many people entering retirement have never had this kind of in-depth analysis put together in one comprehensive document. This meeting is designed for two reasons: 1) to show how your current plan supports your retirement aspirations. Whether we work together or not, you’re going to have a better understanding of your current retirement outlook after this meeting. 2) As we walk through the challenges and opportunities we see in your retirement plan, you’re going to see how we think through building a retirement plan and how we solve challenges. And you’re going to get a taste of what it’s like to work with us, which will help you determine if we are the right firm to help you reach your retirement goals.
The only decision you need to make during this meeting is: does it seem like we could add value to your retirement? And if you see room for improvement, would you like our opinion on what we can do to improve it? If that’s the case, then we will move ahead to the next step in the process.

The plan is entirely customized to your situation. While we use the latest software to run projections, there’s nothing cookie-cutter about the plan we create for you. We’re going to take everything we’ve heard from you, and dig in to find the best way to build a plan that’s right for you.
Next time we meet, you will have a clear picture of what it looks like to have a financial plan that’s designed expressly for you based on your dreams, goals, and aspirations.
Using advanced testing tools, we run scenarios of what could happen to your portfolio with market fluctuations and other factors. We walk you through possible solutions and decide on one that supports your goals.
Our third meeting: a personal tour of your customized retirement plan.
We present the plan we’ve custom crafted for you. Think of it as a blueprint for your new beginning. You’ll see your existing portfolio side-by-side with the plan we created. You’ll quickly see how a comprehensive retirement plan can make a difference. We’ll show you the adjustments we recommend and the effect it could have on your lifestyle.
It’s our goal during this session to leave you feeling more confident about your retirement. To that end, we’ll answer any questions you have about the plan we created, how we work together, and how our transparent fee structure works.

Our fourth meeting: opening accounts.
In this meeting, we transition your accounts to Great Waters Financial. We make it as simple as possible. We prepare all of the necessary documents, and complete required signatures. Then we lay out our client implementation process and cover what our continued relationship looks like including strategy sessions, ongoing education, and client appreciation events. You will receive a client booklet that goes through our commitments to you, what our ongoing meetings will cover, and who to contact in the event of a significant life change.
