Elijah brings a blend of technical expertise, common sense, and a way of communicating things that leaves clients informed and empowered to make wise financial decisions. In 2008, he watched the wealth of many Minnesota families be eroded in the worst market crash since the great depression. He saw people have fear because of not having a plan and shifted his focus to specializing in retirement planning and retirement income planning. Our clients leave his office with a full understanding of where they are, a stress tested income plan, a strategy for minimizing taxes and risk while delivering solid returns. His passion is to help our clients live a great retirement. In addition to serving clients, he is responsible for leading his team at the Richfield office as well as helping shape the direction and planning of Great Waters Financial.
His commonsense approach and drive to help people make good decisions has brought him many opportunities to speak at Industry events, local organizations, churches and be interviewed on news stations such as WCCO, FOX 9, KARE 11 and KSTP as well as publications like, Yahoo Finance, Fox Business, CNBC, and The Wall Street Journal.
As a founding partner, Elijah‘s work ethic and diligence in planning has been critical in helping craft the Great Waters planning philosophy and he regularly helps the team improve their planning processes. He has furthered our financial education by being the first member of our team to become an Ed Slott Elite IRA Advisor, specializing in taxation and treatment of IRAs, Roth IRAs, and qualified plans.
An important figure in Elijah‘s life was his grandfather, “Papa“ Joe Kovar, who was a decorated World War II hero and spent his life serving people and giving back to others who were less fortunate. Elijah learned from him to care for people, to love people, to always have his word be his word, and seek every day to emulate the work ethic and principles that he saw in his Papa as he serves in his position here at Great Waters.
Elijah and his wife Erica have four kids, Barrett, Adrianna, Angelina and Gianni. Outside of business, you will see Elijah coaching his kids’ sports teams, serving in their church, and enjoying outdoor pursuits like mountain biking, snowboarding, and camping as a family. Elijah is an outspoken proponent for veterans returning home and for feeding the hungry. He and his wife often serve in organizations that are battling to end hunger in the United States and abroad.
